Tinkler to lead Black Aces

New owner John Comitis has announced that former Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler will lead his new Cape Town club that is born out of the relocation of Mpumalanga Black Aces to the Mother City.

The club, which does not yet have a name, had hoped that Muhsin Ertugral would stay within the franchise to the lead the team, but after he left for Pirates, Comitis has grabbed Tinkler in what is essentially a swap of coaching positions between the teams.

“It’s seldom that you find a South African head coach that has played at the highest level of football in the EPL [English Premier League] and in the [Italian] Serie A League,” Comitis said in a statement on Friday.

“But to add to that he has the highest level of qualification – Uefa Pro License. We have committed ourselves to a three-year contract and we are positive that his experience, coupled with his knowledge, will assist us to build this club from the ground up.

“His recent success in the African [Confederation] Cup are well documented and this bodes well with our future ambitions.”

Tinkler will have one friendly face in Cape Town at least, he was previously assistant coach to current Ajax boss Roger de Sa at both BidVest Wits and Pirates.
