Lagos National Stadium management now cleans facility at weekend

To ensure that users of the National Stadium, Lagos, enjoyed a healthy environment, the facility’s management on Tuesday said it had extended its cleaning to weekends.

The Stadium Manager, Alanamu, said in Lagos that cleaners made up of contract staff report to duty on Saturdays and Sundays as part of their overtime.

Alanamu said the initiative became necessary because of the various activities that hold at weekends in the facility’s premises, stressing that the environment must be kept neat for users.

“The stadium is usually busy because of its location and lots of activities take place in the environment such as sports and social events, especially at the weekends.

“These activities have compelled us to increase the cleaners’ duties whereby they come at weekends to clear refuse so that the entire complex can be neat and healthy.

“Its going to be continuous because since we started it, the entire environment appears pleasant and people are encouraged to use our facilities for their programmes,’’ he said.

Alanamu noted that shop owners were also part of the cleaning as they observed theirs every Thursday morning, while some conducted theirs on Wednesdays after sales.

“Every Thursday morning, we go round the stadium to inspect the condition of the environment and any shop noticed to be dirty is locked up until it is cleaned up,’’ he said.

The manager also warned fans who use the facility for their training to ensure total compliance with their scheduled as directed by the management of the National Stadium.

According to him, training periods start from 6 a.m. to noon for morning session and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for evening, while fans are expected to go back home after observing the daily training.

He added that security guards had been positioned at strategic places within the complex to arrest those who violate the directive and loiter around after training.

“We need to stress clearly that the stadium is not a residential place, people are free to come and make use of the facility for training but they must not abuse the privilege.

“Anybody caught by our guards loitering or sleeping after training, he or she will be handed over to the police; however, we don’t mean to embarrass anybody,’’ he said.
