Minority Interest Rights Advocate (MIRAN) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the military to exercise caution in tackling the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta.
MIRAN, a coalition of civil society organisation championing courses for minority interests and rights in Nigeria, said the presidency and the Nigeria Military must be professional in their engagement and avoid killing of innocent Nigerians.
In a statement issued by the group led by comrade Iyah Iyah who is the executive director of CDLE Nigeria, noted that previous experiences show that the minority are always the most affcetd.
“We observe that victims of such actions are usually minority ethnic nationalities which lives are worthless in Nigeria. Recall the out cry from some part of the north when innocent people were being killed in successive military actions in the north east.”
“On this occasion, what we observe is silence on the part of the south south leaders for fear of being labelled as opposing the federal government. We can not legitimise crime in the name of National security especially when it involves the loss of innocent lives.”
“We call on the international community to bring to Justice any government official who is directly or indirectly involved in the ongoing atrocities. We also equivocally condemn the killings of those celebrating the Biafra memorial in the southern part of the country for denying that there was no Biafra is like denying the holocaust. The government must sit with opposing forces and discuss the future of Nigeria.”
