Speaking with journalists in Lagos, Hassan noted that each crime has its own peculiarity and history and public support has always helped in solving several crime cases in the country. Hassan noted that the police are social agents whose effectiveness and operations will always be improved when the public provides necessary information when needed and report strange occurrence in their environ.
AIG Hassan also affirmed that crime occurs in every part of the world but what matters to the Nigerian Police Force is the ability to fight the crime and bring the perpetrators to book.
According to him, “The protection of girls and women is our utmost priority. We know that there have been constant abuse, and with information this abuse will be curbed to the barest minimum. When the crime is not reported, it gives chance for more occurrences. If the crime overwhelms you, it will be bad. When there is a certainty for prosecution, the police will always pursue the case till the end.
“The police-force are social agents and they need the support of the populace. The support and information given to us by the public has assisted us by in unraveling some of the most serious crimes committed in this country. They can be tamed and this crime can be eliminated if the public gives us the information that will assist us.
‘’It is important also for parents to always watch over their children. Unfortunately, several parents do not take time to even inquire about their children’s association and his/her attitudes. Some parents claim to be so busy that they allow their maids to play the role of parents. This is wrong and some can pay a price for this carelessness.
‘’These house helps have now formed a syndicate and we all know what level of kidnappings that they have now been involved in. It is important as parents to open your child’s school bags to know if he takes toy gun to school, check his /her text messages to ascertain the friends he is keeping. All these will help the parent and the society if it is done.
The AIG who has 33 years experience in the police and has been posted to virtually all the positions around the country, noted that the former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, has inspired him because he (Okiro) is one of the outstanding operational strategists that the police force has ever produced.
