THE Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Dr. Clara Sogbaike, has said that the student whose corpse was found at the institution’s staff quarters junction on Saturday, July 2, had been away from school for about two weeks and came back a day before her dead body was found.
The student, Miss Oritsegbubemi Udu, an ND II student of the institution, was found dead with white substances oozing from her mouth.
Dr. Sogbaike, in a statement by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Wilberforce Ofotokun, said: “The student was said to have been away from school for about two weeks and came back on Friday, July I, at the end of the student week.
“She left again, in the same car that brought her, after dropping her luggage that evening only for her corpse to be found off campus in the morning of the next day. Till now, no representative of the family has come to inform the management of the institution of the incidence.”
Meanwhile, the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, and National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS, have petitioned the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department over the mysterious death of the student owing to what they referred to as the lacklustre manner the police in the division is handling the case.
According to the petitions, which were signed by their counsel, Dokpegboritse Atotuomah, “the decea-sed was very healthy on the day before her murder.
“She had planned to attend the beauty pageant commemorating the polytechnic students’ celebration.”
