Contrary to reports, Tim Tebow will not be speaking at next week's Republican National Convention. The rumors began circulating Wednesday night, and when he awoke the next day, Tebow was as stunned as the rest of the United States. "I wake up this morning to find out I'm speaking at the Republican National Convention. It's amazing how fast rumors fly," the former football player said in an Instagram video Thursday. "And that's exactly what this is: a rumor."
Tim had returned home from a Christian missions trip to the Philippines Monday night and was dealing with jet lag when The New York Times reported he would be addressing conservatives. (The newspaper did note that the list of speakers was "subject to change" before July 18.)
"My goal has always been to be able to make a difference in the biggest way possible. If one day, it's the political realm, that's what I'll do. But right now, I really believe that it's through my Foundation and our amazing partners and fighting for kids who can't fight for themselves," the 28-year-old athlete said. "I love our country and I'll do anything for America. One of the things I love most is that it's one nation under God. Let's forget about our quarrels and our differences, and let's come together on 'one nation under God. God bless you, and God bless America."
Donald Trump, the party's presumptive nominee, has promised a different kind of convention. Confirmed speakers during the week-long event in Cleveland, Ohio, include Mark Burns, Phil Ruffin, Ryan Zinke, Pat Smith, Mark Geist, John Tiegen, Michael McCaul, David Clarke, Sean Duffy, Darryl Glenn, Tom Cotton, Karen Vaughn, Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani, Melania Trump, Joni Ernst, Kathryn Gates-Skipper, Marcus Luttrell, Dana White, Asa Hutchinson, Leslie Rutledge, Michael Mukasey, Andy Wist, Jeff Sessions, Michael Flynn, Alex Smith, Paul Ryan, Kevin McCarthy, Kerry Woolard, Shelley Moore Capito, Dr. Ben Carson, Sharon Day, Natalie Gulbis, Kimberlin Brown, Antonio Sabato, Jr., Peter Thiel, Eileen Collins, Ted Cruz, Newt Gingrich, Michelle Van Etten, Lynne Patton, Eric Trump, Harold Hamm, Chris Collins, Brock Mealer, Marsha Blackburn, Mary Fallin, Darrell Scott, Lisa Shin, Rick Scott, Reince Priebus, Tom Barrack, Ivanka Trump, Pam Bondi, Jerry Falwell Jr., Haskel Lookstein, Chris Cox, Mitch McConnell, Tiffany Trump, Chris Christie, Donald J. Trump Jr. and Scott Walker.
