Fire guts Uvwie Chief’s house

SUSPECTED arsonists, yesterday, razed the multi-million naira private resident of the embattled Unuevworo of Ekpan, Chief Newton Agbofodoh, but no life was lost.

 Agbofodoh, through his lawyers, P. O. Edjor. of Amusi & Co Chambers, in a petition to Delta State Police Command, blamed the incident on some government officials had a running battle with the Ekpan leader.

The letter read in part: “Our professional services as solicitors have been retained by the Executive Officers of Ekpan community represented by Mr. Joseph Uwaye who is an indigene of Ekpan Community in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State and also the Public Relations Officer of Ekpan Development Committee.

“It is our client’s brief that since the later part of 2015 and the beginning 2016, there have been communal crisis in Effurun and Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area due to political leadership tussle.

“That Ekpan has been in complete disorder and anarchy due to persistence of the activities of a notorious name in the community due to the spate of killings, acts of terrorism and molestation of innocent members of the community.

“Ekpan has been under threat, harassment and intimidation by the hood-lums, who were armed with dangerous weapons, under the instigation and supervision of the said notorious person.

“They fired sporadically into the air in order to cow people into submission, ransacked several homes particularly the house of Chief Senior Ruler of Ekpan Community (Unuevworo), High Chief Newton Agbofodoh.

“Yesterday, at about 12:30a.m., the house of High Chief Agbofodoh was set ablaze by the hoodlums under the supervision of their leader.”
