Nosa Igiebor was among the goals for Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv as they defeated Romanian outfit CS Pandurii Târgu Jiu 2-1 in a third qualifying round game of the Uefa Europa League on Thursday.
Igiebor and his teammates had made light work of their opponents in their first meeting at the Stadionul Municipal Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Stadionul Tudor Vladimirescu, on July 28 when they won 3-1.
However, if Igiebor and his Maccabi teammates were hoping that the Romanian side were going to roll over and allow themselves to be ran over, they were wrong.
Igiebor opened the scoring on 24 minutes and the hosts took that one-goal lead, as well as a healthy 4-1 aggregate lead, into the locker room. The goal was his second on the Romanian club over the two-legged contest.
Twice inside the opening six minutes of the restart, Igiebor should have doubled his team's lead. On 48 minutes, his effort was blocked and three minutes later, he dragged his shot off target.
Marian Pleasca put CS Pandurii level just 12 minutes into the restart as the Romanian club hoped to pull off some sort of a comeback against their hosts.
Ezequiel Scarione put the game to bed with an 80th minute strike as Maccabi Tel Aviv ran out 2-1 winners on the night and 5-2 on aggregate to reach the next stage of the Europa League.
