A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State has slammed a N100,000 bail on a 28-year-old man, Bimbo Iseyin, who allegedly stole two vehicle tyres worth N15,000. Chief Magistrate Abiodun Etti, who gave the ruling, also granted the accused a surety, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The accused, whose address is unknown, was arraigned on a charge of stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 11 at a tyre warehouse located at Joseph Dosu Way in Badagry.
He said the stolen items belonged to the complainant, Mrs Akpan Udom. “The accused just came to the shop, took two tyres and started running away. “Onlookers gave him a hot pursuit and he was caught,’’ he said.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Timothy Ukoha, pleaded with the court to grant him bail on liberal terms, noting that the offence is bailable. Further hearing in the case has been adjourned to Sept. 29.
