Banda urges positivity against Nigeria

Zambia goalkeeper Jacob Banda says it is not impossible to get a favourable home win against Nigeria on October 9.

Chipolopolo will host Nigeria in the two sides’ opening Russia 2018 World Cup Group B qualifier, at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The home side is the only team in Group B without any World Cup experience in a pool that also contains Algeria and perennial tournament campaigners Cameroon.

“It (the Nigeria game) is a very crucial game and I believe we have a team to overcome Nigeria,” the Zesco United goalkeeper said.

“What matters will be our preparations. If we prepare well then nothing will be difficult for us.”

Meanwhile, Zanaco midfielder Roderick Kabwe said he was delighted to have reunited with his former coach at Under-17 level from the class of 2007.

Other players from that Zambia Under-17 team in the current senior side, camped in Ndola include defender Lawrence Chungu and goalkeeper Allan Chibwe, who both of Power Dynamos, midfielder Chisamba Lungu of Russian club FC Ural and Zesco striker John Chingandu.

“We will be very ready for Nigeria next week,” Kabwe said.

“So all we need to do is follow his instructions.”
