Crisis continues for Vincent Enyeama & LOSC Lille

Vincent Enyeama again endured a miserable outing with crisis-hit LOSC Lille as they were comprehensively beaten 3-1 by AS Saint-Etienne on Sunday.

The visitors paid the price for Franck Beria’s sending off in the 34th minute as they capitulated in the second half, conceding three goals after the break.

This was Lille’s fourth consecutive defeat, and they remain rooted to the bottom of the Ligue 1 log, with only four points from six matches.

Saint-Etienne, by contrast, are unbeaten in nine games and have moved up to seventh in the division.

It’s proving to be a testing start to the campaign for Enyeama, who has been an ever-present for the Nordists but been unable to prevent them from conceding 14 goals—the joint worst defensive record in the division.

Talk of crisis at the Stade Pierre Mauroy will likely continue after yet another defeat, and coach Frederic Antonetti is struggling as the pressure mounts.

The 54-year-old succeeded Herve Renard, who was sacked on 11 November 2015 after a dismal start to last season, it remains to be seen if he will not follow in the footsteps of his predecessor or last until Christmas.

The Super Eagles fans who were hoping to see old stalwart Enyeama return between the sticks to help the West African giants to the 2018 World Cup will also have to continue waiting, as Gernot Rohr has not included him in his squad for next month’s opening qualifier against Zambia.
