Man abducts 2 teenagers in Bayelsa

A 39-year-old suspected ritualist was, weekend, apprehended by members of a vigilante group in Igbogene in the outskirts of Yenagoa, over the alleged abduction of two teenagers in the area.

The suspect, Preye Dedefagh, was arrested at 1.45a.m., at the Igbogene Market with two teenage boys, Prince Owei, 17, and Jeremiah Osunmole, 13. While the suspect hails from Ekeremor LGA of the state, the victims, Owei and Osunmole, are indigenes of Abua in Rivers State and Ofoni in Sagbama LGA of Bayelsa State, respectively.

Chairman of the Igbogene Vigilante Committee, Chief Robbison Asomo, said that the vigilante group was on patrol when they found the abducted teenagers in the suspect’s company, adding that the teenagers were under a spell when they were rescued.

Asomo said: “We were on patrol of our area when we met the suspect and the teenagers at the Market square. When questioned, he told us that the teenage boys were his children and they were at the market to do a job very early the next morning.

“He also claimed that his wife sells food at the market opposite the Catholic Church.

“But when we asked the teenage boys if the suspect was their father, they seem to have come out of a trance and denied him. They said though they slept in markets and motor parks, they do not know how they got to Igbogeneý market.

“They also claimed they lost their senses when the suspect was taking them away.” He said the suspect had been handed over to the state command
