Saviour Godwin has requested to leave the training camp of Nigeria’s Under-23 side as the side shape up for the men’s football event of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Godwin has asked to leave as he wants to join his Belgian club, KV Oostende, for their pre-season exertions.
If the 19-year-old attacker is given permission to leave, the Nigeria squad will be reduced to 20 players.
Meanwhile, Timi Ebikagboro, spokesman of the team, has revealed that two members of the squad, William Troost-Ekong and Aminu Umar, will join the rest of the team in Manaus, Brazil.
“The two players will be joining us very soon.
“We will be leaving Atlanta (United States) by 12:30pm local time on Tuesday for Brazil.
“The Olympics is very serious business and we know Nigerians have very big expectations as far as this team is concerned.
“We will do all we can to make the country proud,” he told supersport.com.
Nigeria are in group B of the men’s football event at the 2016 Olympics alongside Colombia, Japan and Sweden.
The Dream Team VI will get their preliminary campaign started on August 4 against Japan at Arena da Amazônia, Manaus before facing Sweden at the same venue, three days later.
On August 10, the Nigeria football team will play their final group game against Colombia at Arena Corinthians, São Paulo.
